Estrella Mountain Foothills

Estrella View

View of the Sonora Desert from Estrella Blvd between downtown Estrella Ranch and the Gila River. Looking just a little south of east in this pix.

Desert Hummingbird

This little dude was hunting for nectar at the Estrella Star Tower. He was very shy and I didn't have a long enough lens to really zoom in on him.

Desert Honeybee

Another nectar hunter. This one has grabbed some pollen on her rounds. She was not shy at all and I was able to use the macro and lean into the pix.

Desert Hummingbird aka the Hover Bot

One more pix of the little dude. He was kind enough to hover for me. You will need to click the thumbnail.

White Dove Chapel - Santa Cruz, AZ

White Dove Chapel Santa Cruz AZ

During Mrs. Thompson last visit over Christmas 2009, we took a short drive down the the Gila River Reservation. I have a hard time finding information on this church/chapel. I believe it is called the White Dove Chapel. It is located in Santa Cruz, AZ. Call it 10 miles south of Laveen on the GR Reservation.

The buildings and cross are incredibly white in the mid morning sun. There is a large salt cedar shading the chapel. The sky was still and very blue blue that day. We took the pix on a Sunday morning, but there were no services. A fence encircles the buildings. I was snapping pix through the fence.

San Jacinto

The top of San Jacinto - 10,834 feet This is view of the last boulder piled atop San Jacinto. Pix taken from the USGS benchmark.

View from San Jacinto Pix from the top. Looking north east toward the Little San Bernardino Mountains. Joshua Tree National Park is lies behind the ridge. Whitewater wash and the Coachella Valley are visible in the haze.

View from San Jacinto Another pix from the top. Looking south east toward the Salton Sea. Most of the Coachella Valley towns are in view. The haze limits the view to maybe 30 miles.

San Gorgonio Peak Looking north this time at San Gorgonio Peak - Old Greyback. No snow in view. Hell of a walk over. Down two miles and then back up another two miles. All in just a few horizontal miles between peaks.

Self Portrait Your photographer. Three hours up and three hours back. Much less oxygen at that elevation.
